SCPS' Estimated Budget Cut for Next Year More Than Doubles

Seminole County Public Schools' estimated revenue shortfall for the next fiscal year has more than doubled since July. According SCPS' Finance and Budget Executive Director John Pavelchak, the worst case scenario could amount to a $42 million budget shortfall for fiscal year 2012-2013. That is more than double the estimated $20 million figure tossed around this past summer. The increase is largely due to continued declines in property values and new and proposed tax cuts from Gov. Scott and the Legislature.

2009 Alumni Wins Prestigious Obama/HSF Scholarship, Recognized in the Press

Class of 2009 Crooms Academy of Information Technology graduate David Rodriguez has been announced as one of 12 students nationwide to win the President Barack Obama/Hispanic Scholarship Fund STEM Teacher Scholarship, an award of $2,500 a year for two years. Winners are majors in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. David was picked for his goals of teaching and giving back to the community. On top of his Obama STEM award, he was also invited to the annual HSF Alumni Gala in November.

Crooms Needs Interviewers for the Senior Exit Interviews

Crooms AoIT is preparing for Senior Exit Interviews. There is a scheduled senior meeting on Nov. 3 and they would like to provide all the details to the senior class so they can prepare for their exit interviews. In order for this to work, interviewers need to sign up now so seniors can be informed of what slots are available. Please open the interview schedule attachment for details if you are interested in signing up. The first interviews begin Nov. 28 and end on Dec. 2.
