Crooms Athletics Department receives $250 Grant from the Crooms AoIT Alumni Association

The Crooms AoIT Alumni Association, Inc. is proud to announce that we have donated $250 to Crooms Academy of Information Technology’s Athletics Department. This grant comes from our previously established multi-year Grant program, and no general donor dollars were used. Our grants committee reviewed and selected the Athletics department's application from a pool of qualified applications. The grant will be used to support the sports teams and other areas of the athletic program through the purchase of a rolling cart used to transport water across fields and campus.

Alumni Association Awards Two Scholarships

The Crooms AoIT Alumni Association has awarded two scholarships this year to graduating seniors. The recipient of the 7th annual Crooms AoIT Alumni Association Community Scholarship for $600 is Bradley Mauger and the recipient of the 1st Crooms AoIT Alumni Association Tech Innovation Scholarship for $1,500 is Paul Dela Cruz.

The Crooms AoIT Alumni Association Community Scholarship is meant to honor a student that exemplifies not only academic and extracurricular achievement, but also demonstrates a dedication to community service and involvement. Bradley's involvement at Crooms AoIT included being treasurer of the National Honor Society, a member of BETA club, and an ambassador to the PTSA. In his free time, he volunteered with several organizations, including the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Cure CMD, and Canine Companions for Independence. Bradley intends to study finance at one of Florida's public universities upon graduation.

The Crooms AoIT Alumni Association Tech Innovation Scholarship recognizes an individual who has used their technical acumen to create or contribute to a technology-based project: anything from a graphics design to a website to a robotics building kit or data visualization. This year's recipient went above our expectations and not only programmed a video game, but also created the story, designed the artwork, created the maps, created some of the audio files, created a video trailer, and provided the his game for download to the public. You can check out Paul's on his scholarship winning game - Sword of Light III - at http://rpgmaker.net/games/6044/. Paul will be attending Seminole State upon graduation.

It’s important for those alumni that have the means to give back to do so. It’s also pretty cool to be in a position to be a strong contributor to an organization. The Founders Society – at its core – is 10 folks that directly give back to the students at Crooms AoIT. We believe in the support we’re providing [to current students] and it’s an opportunity for us to demonstrate that belief. Indirectly, it’s also an opportunity to help perpetuate the financial support the Alumni Association provides and help it become self-sustaining. Ultimately, The Founders Society is a sign that we have a strong core of like-minded people that want to see Crooms AoIT succeed.
