Crooms AoIT “Where are they now?” Project

Crooms AoIT is starting a new project on campus entitled, "Where are they now?" The Project is looking to highlight the career successes of alumni as a way to promote academic success for current Croomies.

A bulletin board display is being created to highlight where all of our alumni are and what they are doing. Crooms wants to know where you are, where you work, your title, and other pertinent information. This information may go beyond the bulletin board and become part of the Crooms marketing material. The Alumni Association is also taking part in this project, and may display some of the profiles on our website or future newsletters. In order to take part please send the following information to

Name and Location
Role Title/Role
Job Description
Volunteer/Community Involvement/Professional Society Involvement
Educational Background
Any other misc. information you feel may be of value

We especially hope that those in the job market will take part in this project. This is a quick and easy way to give back to Crooms AoIT and help inspire others. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Alumni Albert Vinas (2005) announces new film project: Libertad

Libertad is a feature length drama about a family making a decision whether or not to risk everything they have to embark on a journey on a little makeshift boat headed towards a dream of American liberty.

Jose is part of a family living in Cuba. After his son Carlos was born, he began to accept the social economic disparity that surrounded him and his family until his brother Raul opened up an opportunity of a lifetime to make an outlandish decision to flee to the United States on a boat that he started building in his backyard. The quest for freedom brought their families together and their dream to live in the United States was slowly becoming a reality. However, Jose’s wife Yonaidys was having second thoughts about putting her son Carlos on a small boat destined for America. They had no clue of what struggles awaits them out at sea.

The money is for things such as set construction, camera rental, location permits among other things to get us through production phase which would start on December 1. A look at the budget top sheet can be viewed here,

Crooms AoIT Named a Five Star School!

The Florida Department of Education has just announced the Five Star Schools in the state during the 2009-10 school year, and Crooms AoIT was among the names. Congratulations Croomies! Five Star Schools have shown evidence of widespread community involvement through business partnerships, family involvement, volunteers, student community service and school advisory councils. All five measures have to be met in order to be named a Five Star school – thus the Five Star designation. A special thanks go out to the Crooms alumni that volunteer regularly.

Crooms AoIT Alumni Donation Drive Kickoff!

Hello fellow Croomies,

As the school year begins anew across Florida, so too does it for the Crooms AoIT Alumni Association. This year is not only marks Crooms AoIT's 10th school year as Seminole County's premier magnet school or the Alumni Association's 5th year of providing a scholarship, but also signifies the Alumni Association's first year of revamped operations. This year, we will be providing more opportunities to interact with fellow our alumni, increased awareness about what is going on at Crooms, and continued efforts to support current Croomies. These activities include alumni MeetUps, teach-in days, mentoring opportunities, Coomie updates through social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, RSS, and our website) and, of course the continuation of the Crooms AoIT Alumni Community Scholarship.

To support these efforts, especially the Crooms AoIT Alumni Community Scholarship, we have adopted a new tiered membership structure. You can learn more about the membership tiers at We also hope you will decide to become a member today and support our scholarship efforts as we attempt to offer the Community Scholarship for a 5th year. Membership in the Crooms AoIT Alumni Association not only supports our Community Scholarship, but also provides for the ability to become more involved in the Alumni Association, serve in a leadership capacity, and even receive discounts on events. Your support is vital for our ability to offer the scholarship, so we hope you will decide to take the step and support Crooms' continued efforts to promote education at all levels. To help kick off the new tiered membership structure, all donations made in September will receive a 25% matching donation by a private contributor. To donate and become a member, please visit

To oversee our efforts, the Alumni Association now has a Board of Directors to provide oversight and a Management Team to oversee our daily operations. You can learn more about our organizational improvements by visiting

If you have any questions, suggestions, comments, or criticisms as to how we can improve our operations, support Crooms AoIT, or be of assistance to our alumni please feel free to contact or any one of our Board or Management members. You can also friend us on Facebook ("Crooms Aoitalumni"), join our Facebook Group ("The Crooms AOIT Graduates"), follow us on Twitter (@Croomsalumni), or check out the Crooms AoIT Alumni Association's website.

Thank you for your continued support!

Requesting Feedback on Alumni vs Alumni Basketball Game Idea

Dear Alumni,

The Crooms AoIT Alumni Association is assessing the possibility of hosting an "Alumni vs Alumni Basketball Game"/Tournament sometime during Winter Break and we would like your feedback on the idea. The game(s) would be hosted as a fund raiser for the Crooms AoIT Alumni Association Community Scholarship and the Crooms AoIT athletic programs. Mainly, we are interested in knowing if you would like to play, would you attend, is this something you would tell your fellow alumni about, etc?

While no details or dates have been decided yet, we are looking at hosting an "Alumni vs Alumni Basketball Game" sometime during the Winter Break at the Crooms AoIT Gym. The game would be ref’ed, announced, and, possibly coached by current Crooms AoIT students. We would like to play either full games or half games using high school regulations. We are looking at full teams that are all male and all female (unless we do not get enough female interest, then they would be mixed). Possibly, teams would be decided by class (perhaps Classes of ’05, ’06, and ’07 vs Classes of ’08, ’09, and ’10) or registrants could register their own team. If there is a ton of interest, we could break it down further and have multiple teams and set up a tournament schedule.

As a fund raiser, we would be asking players to "donate" a nominal fee to play ($5-$10); tickets to attend as an audience member would be nominal as well (perhaps $3). The concession stand would be open at cost, otherwise there might be a BBQ at extra cost.

Please let us know your thoughts and interest level in this idea – feedback will be presented anonymously to the Crooms AoIT Alumni Association Board and the Crooms AoIT Athletic Director.

Thank you in advance,

Crooms AoIT Alumni Association Management Team
